Community Ambulance and Eddy-New Rockford Library Receive Grants from North Dakota Community Foundation

November 18th, 2013 – Two local organizations, the Community Ambulance Service of New Rockford and the Eddy-New Rockford Library, have been awarded grants from the North Dakota Community Foundation (NDCF). The Ambulance received $1500 towards the purchase of a new ambulance, and the Library was awarded $3000 to help fund its Meeting, Reading, and Quiet Room renovation project.

The Community Ambulance Service has been raising funds for the purchase of a new ambulance. The gift from the NDCF completed their fundraising goal, allowing the organization to replace the oldest vehicle on their fleet, a 1991 model used as a back-up for local runs. Squad Leader Sandy O’Connor says, “We are excited to receive this donation from the NDCF, which was the final push to finish our extensive fundraising.”

The Library’s project will involve converting a storage room in the Library building into a usable space for gatherings and comfortable reading and studying. Librarian Susie Sharp commented, “We are thrilled to have received the support of the Foundation. This gift, along with our previous fundraising, brings us within striking distance of our goal to complete the project.”

The grants were part of the North Dakota Community Foundation’s State-wide Greatest Needs (Unrestricted) Fund. Grants in this program are awarded on a competitive basis. This year the Foundation received 149 grant requests, of which the Board of Directors approved 49.

“I was amazed at the number of grant requests and the incredible projects and programs that are happening across our state,” said NDCF Board Member Diane Peyerl. “We are pleased that our NDCF grants will enhance the quality of life for North Dakota citizens.”

The North Dakota Community Foundation was organized in 1976. The Foundation was formed as an efficient means of meeting the needs of North Dakota in the educational, charitable, arts, scientific and health areas. It is a public, non-profit tax-exempt corporation which receives and distributes charitable funds to support a wide range of programs which benefit North Dakotans.

The NDCF administers charitable endowment and non-endowment funds on behalf of communities, businesses, non-profit organizations, and individuals. Local endowments under the NDCF include the New Rockford Community Foundation, the New Rockford Golf Club Improvement Fund, and the Carrington Community Foundation.
