“Smoke on the Mountain Homecoming” Opens Soon at Opera House
February 17th, 2014 – Come on home to Mount Pleasant Baptist Church with the Sanders Family in Dakota Prairie Regional Center for the Arts’ (DPRCA’s) spring musical comedy, Smoke on the Mountain Homecoming, opening March 7th at the Opera House theatre in New Rockford.
The story is set in 1945, just after the war. The gospel-singing Sanders Family (from the original Smoke on the Mountain and Sanders Family Christmas, both previously performed at DPRCA) is saying farewell to Reverend Mervin Oglethorpe and his wife June as they ride off into the sunset, leaving young Dennis Sanders to take over as pastor for Mount Pleasant. The show is filled with hilarious and touching stories, and toe-tapping bluegrass gospel favorites.
The production, directed by Deb Belquist, features veteran cast and house band members Jared Kolles, Natasha Woitzel-Kolles, Jacee Engels, Brenda Bachmeier, Tyson Rost, Rhianne Bowman, Cathy and Steve Bowman, Kirsten Georgeson, Delaine Rademacher, Deb Belquist, and new to the DPRCA stage, Jeff Labrensz.
DPRCA’s Upstage Gallery arts and retail shop will be open before and during performances for audience members to peruse pieces by local and regional artists. The Latte Lobby coffeeshop will provide hot and cold beverages, and Jack’s Tavern wine bar in the theatre lobby will also be open for all performances, so patrons over the age of 21 will be able to purchase a glass of wine or beer to enjoy during the show.
Smoke on the Mountain Homecoming runs at the Opera House - 818 Central Ave in New Rockford - from March 7 through 30. Tickets are on sale now at www.dprca.com or at the box office at (701) 947-2174. All tickets are $22. Volunteers and ushers for shows are always needed and welcome.
