October 29, 2015 - Tickets are now available for Dakota Prairie Regional Center for the Arts’ winter production. Opening November 13th at the Old Church Theatre in New Rockford, “The Gifts of the Magi” is a heartwarming Christmas musical.

Based upon O. Henry’s classic short story, “Gifts” tells the tale of Jim and Della Dillingham - a young, small town couple struggling to get by in the big city. In addition to the Dillinghams, the cast of characters includes affable and omniscient narrator Willy Porter, loveable layabout Soapy Smith, and a wide cross-section of the “City” played by two actors. Filled to the brim with fabulous music and moving dialogue, the show offers a truly heartwarming theatrical experience. With nothing to hold onto but their love, Jim and Della will find out if love is, in fact, enough.

The show is directed by DPRCA’s Artistic Director, Elliott Schwab, and produced by Managing Director Deb Belquist, with musical direction by Rachel Markestad. Technical direction and set design for the show are by Jared Kolles, with lights and sound by Braxton Meehan, Lizzie Widmer, and Abby Makay. In addition to Schwab and Kolles, the cast includes Erin Greiner, Jon Johnson, Annette Hovey, and Susie Sharp.

DPRCA’s Upstage Gallery arts and retail shop will be open before and during performances for audience members to peruse pieces by local and regional artists. A variety of hot and cold beverages, as well as wine and beer, are available to enjoy during the show. Pre-show dinners are also served in the theatre’s lower level at the Garden Bistro, by reservation through the box office.

“The Gifts of the Magi” will run at the Old Church Theatre - 529 Central Ave in New Rockford - from November 13 through December 13, for twelve total performances (there will be no shows Thanksgiving weekend). Friday shows are at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday shows are 2:30 p.m. matinees. Tickets are on sale now at www.dprca.com or at the box office at (701) 947-2174.
