Community Foundation Awards Nine Local Grants for 2018

June 11th, 2018 – The New Rockford Community Foundation is pleased to recognize and congratulate the recipients of this year’s local grant awards. Nine organizations were awarded grants this year, totaling $3610 in local funding. All are local non-profit organizations who submitted applications for projects that benefit the New Rockford community.
American Legion Post #30 received $310 for the Post Building Front Renovation project, which is currently underway to restore part of the original historic building facing Central Ave.
Central ND Steam Threshers received $400 for the Brinsmade Church Foundation Project, seeking to lift the structure and restore a safe and sturdy base to the historic building in Pioneer Village.
Community Ambulance Service of New Rockford received $500 for an Intraosseous Infusion Kit, a medical tool for advanced life-saving procedures in case of severe trauma.
Daycare at LHGS received $300 for their Highchairs and Locking Cabinet project, providing safe equipment for their child care program, serving the children of LHGS employees.
Eagles Aerie 2923 received $400 towards their Kitchen/Flooring Renovation Project, Phase II, to update and improve the club facility for its use as a community gathering and meeting space.
The Eddy-NR Library received $400 for their Library Remodel, including turning a large classroom-type space into comfortable study, reading, and children’s activity spaces.
Lake Region District Health, Eddy County, received $600 for their Digital Adult Immunization Records project, seeking to safeguard decades of paper records by creating an electronic database of patient immunizations.
Rockin’ Fitness received $400 towards Water Aerobics Equipment, to keep participant costs low for a new low-impact and accessible fitness program, held in partnership with the community swimming pool.
The Women’s Auxiliary Cemetery Association received $300 for Fundraising Program Support, to help maintain good communication with donors towards upkeep of the Prairie Home and St. John’s Cemeteries.
The New Rockford Community Foundation is a permanent fund created in 2008 through individual and business donations, and grown through fundraisers and donations over the subsequent years. Each spring, the Foundation advisory board gives away the interest generated by the fund to local groups and organizations, leaving the fund intact to create a secure source of grant money in perpetuity. The fund is administered by the North Dakota Community Foundation, a state-level endowment which manages dozens of similar funds for other North Dakota communities.
The Foundation holds an annual signature fundraising event, “Deal or No Deal”, which earned $9,600 for the endowment fund this year between the event and generous business donors. Individuals, families, businesses, and estates are always welcome to make a donation, in any amount, at any time. Donations are tax-deductible, and business donors may qualify for a 40% tax credit on their gift. This credit means a $1000 gift would provide a $400 credit back on taxes, in addition the full deduction. The
Foundation grant cycle for each year opens April 1 and ends April 30. All non-profit organizations and units of government that primarily serve New Rockford are welcome to apply for funding. To date the Foundation has granted over $21,000 to community projects.
