New Rockford Seeks Help to Replant Trees

The City of New Rockford is submitting an application for funding from the North Dakota Forest Service to help replant trees in the community. With this grant, trees will be planted on the boulevards - but we need your help to water and care for the trees once they are planted!

New Rockford lost over 1,000 trees in the July 2018 storm – along streets, in yards, the parks, golf course and cemetery. This is a wonderful opportunity for New Rockford to not only replant a diversity of trees, but to also create a healthy, resilient community forest. Healthy trees help promote healthy lifestyles, create a favorable perception of the community for visitors, shoppers and potential residents, and increase property values.

The replanting effort will continue for years and this grant is one small step in the recovery process. The grant will pay for the trees and planting along the streets. For this project, trees will be planted only in areas where adjacent property owners have agreed to water and care for the trees after planting. This is an opportunity for you to help New Rockford grow!

For more information and to reserve trees along your property, contact a New Rockford Tree Board member by April 15: Tim Becker, NDSU Extension (701) 947-2454 Gerri Makay, ND Forest Service (701) 652-2951 George Ritzke, New Rockford City Auditor (701) 947-2461

NOTE: The New Rockford Park District and Women’s Auxiliary Cemetery Association of New Rockford are also writing additional ND Forest Service grants to replace trees in those areas.
