Housing Incentive Program Available in New Rockford
May 22nd, 2017 – As spring home-buying and construction season begin to warm up, the New Rockford Area Betterment Corporation (NRABC), in partnership with the New Rockford City Commission, Eddy County, and several local businesses, would like to remind residents and newcomers of the community’s Housing Incentive Program. This free program provides perks and expense abatements to eligible home purchases, renovations, and new construction within New Rockford city limits.
NRABC Executive Director Jessica Dillon explains, “The Housing Incentives Program was launched to help encourage current and potential residents to build, purchase, and improve their homes in the city, while also helping new residents to get to know the community.” Since the program was initiated in 2008, the NRABC and City Commission have approved 64 projects: eight new homes constructed, 38 home purchases, and 18 home renovations.
Benefits of the program vary by type of project, but may include free water and sewer service for one year, free city trees, gift certificates for golf, live theatre and a gym membership, school activities pass and swimming pool pass, waived building permit fees, two-year real estate tax abatement on new builds and five-year tax abatement on renovation improvement value.
Certain eligibility requirements apply for each kind of project. One common mistake is submitting applications too late - the form must be received and processed prior to purchase or applying for a building permit for renovation or construction. Renovation projects must be for improvements on the home, including attached garages, but may not include work on other buildings or landscaping.
Housing Incentive program brochures and applications are available at the New Rockford Area Betterment Corporation office in City Hall, or online at www.cityofnewrockford.com under “Housing”. For more information please contact Jessica Dillon at (701) 947-2205 or nrabcexec@gmail.com.
