State Babe Ruth Baseball Tournament This Weekend
The tournament kicks off the night of July 31 with a meet-and-greet barbeque at the ballpark, sponsored by Bank Forward, and an all-players breakfast the next morning sponsored by the New Rockford Eagles Club. Four games will be played the first day, August 1, at 12:00, 2:30, 5:00, and SNR playing at 7:30 p.m., with opening ceremonies held prior to the fourth game. Four more games will be held at the same times on August 2, three games on August 3, three on August 4, and championship play on August 5.
Community activities and events are being planned to welcome players and their families to spend time in town between games, including a pool party on August 1 and championship dinner on August 4. All players from outside District 2 will stay with local host families throughout the tournament, as an integral part of the tournament experience, helping them enjoy and form a bond with the host community.
Souvenir tournament t-shirts, official programs, and concessions will be available at the tournament, which will be held at the Jim Johnson Memorial Baseball Field at the south end of New Rockford. Official tournament photography will be provided by Duke Photography, with prints and CDs available to players and fans after the tournament. All members of the community are encouraged to stop out to take in the games and cheer on the home team.
The tournament is being coordinated by a volunteer committee, together with the New Rockford Park District and New Rockford Area Betterment Corporation. The tournament is also funded in part by community and business sponsorships.
