– Fundraising efforts for the New Rockford Community Swimming Pool are in high gear. After the passage of the public funding ballot measure in December, $500,000 of the total project budget remained to be raised before the new pool could break ground. To date, nearly $200,000 has been committed to that goal from grant writing, business sponsors, private donors, and fundraising events.

The fundraising efforts have been headquartered at the offices of the New Rockford Area Betterment Corporation (NRABC) and New Rockford Park District at City Hall, with many individuals and community groups, most notably the New Rockford Lions Club, working independently to help bring in funding.

Sarah Smith Warren, Executive Director of the NRABC, is optimistic. “The community support has been overwhelmingly positive, and we will continue to rely on their momentum and enthusiasm to see the project through to completion. We have a long way ahead of us still, but we are committed to reaching our goal by tapping into a wide variety of funding sources.”

Fundraising programs and events are planned for the coming months in an effort to keep the swimming pool project on schedule to open in July 2015. In addition to business sponsorship requests and individual donations, new ways to support the pool project have been released this month.

One of these new campaigns is a gift program called “Little Splashes” in which anyone can make a donation in the name of someone else, and provide them a card showing their gift of shared support. Both the gift giver and recipient will receive recognition on the pool donor wall and on the pool website.

Warren explains, “The idea behind Little Splashes is that you can give the gift of community, helping to build the pool dollar by dollar. Instead of giving a friend, colleague, family member, teacher, or whomever a small physical gift, you give the gift of supporting this great community project together.”

Similar to the Little Splashes campaign is the Memorial Gift program, in which a donation is made in the name of a friend or loved one, and is listed on the donor recognition wall at the pool either “in Memory of” or “in Honor of”. A donor certificate is also provided to enclose with a sympathy card.

Any individual, business or organization can give a gift towards the project. All gifts are tax-deductible and donors will receive recognition inside the new pool and on the pool website. All programs and forms are available online at www.cityofnewrockford.com and at the NRABC office at City Hall. Call (701) 947-2205 or email smithwarren.nr@gmail.com for more information or to make a gift.
