Eagles Stick Horse Calcutta Race Set for August 22

Don your derby duds and come out to support the New Rockford community. The second annual Eagles stick horse Calcutta race will be run Saturday, Aug. 22.

The evening event will kick off with supper serving from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. or until gone, featuring pulled pork and salad at the New Rockford Eagles Club. At 7:30 p.m. the auctioning of the stick horses will commence. Buyers can join forces to pool their funds and purchase one of six stick horses up for auction. The buyers choose their jockey. Anyone 18 and older is eligible to race.
The winning horse will receive 50 percent of the total horse bids. Last year the winning horse owners receive $5,125.

Betting on the horses will be open throughout the night until racing begins. Tickets can be purchased for $1 and put into the numbered buckets corresponding with the horses. Three winning tickets for WIN, PLACE, and SHOW will be drawn out of the winning horse’s bucket for 50 percent of the ticket sales. Proceeds of the free-will offering for the meal, bets and calcutta will be going to the community events and organizations that the Eagles Club sponsors, as well as the Eagles Memorial Foundation.

“This fundraiser would help to boost our giving,” said Josh Guler, Past President of the New Rockford Eagles Club.

In the past year the New Rockford Eagles Club has given donations to the New Rockford Community Cares suicide prevention awareness, New Rockford Park Board, Sheyenne Rodeo Club, Rick Lowen Benefit, Eagles Men’s Softball, New Rockford-Sheyenne FCCLA, Wells County Fair, New Rockford Fire Department, Sheyenne-New Rockford youth baseball program, Wells, Foster, Eddy counties Social Services child abuse awareness programs, Fessenden Post Prom, Community Ambulance, Rockford Theatre, Hunter Safety, Men’s Basketball League, 5th & 6th Grade Girls Basketball program. The Eagles Memorial Foundation provides medical and educational benefits to the children of Eagles’ members who lose their lives while serving their country or at work.

Plan to attend and help make this a successful event. Dress up in derby style or western gear to add to the fun.
