Two Locals Take Home $1000 Each at “Deal or No Deal”
March 19th, 2013 – The New Rockford Community Foundation is off to a great start on this year’s fundraising with the successful “Deal or No Deal” dinner and game show raffle, held St. Patrick’s Day weekend. The second annual fundraiser, loosely based on the popular TV game show, brought more than 125 players to the Eagles for dinner, games, prizes, and a big cash giveaway.
Attendees enjoyed a social hour and their choice of seasoned roast beef or shrimp scampi dinner. The games - Deal or No Deal, the Lucky Duck Pluck, and Audience Challenges - were managed by New Rockford Community Foundation board members and emceed by Jessica Dillon of the New Rockford Area Betterment Corporation, with a welcome speech by Community Foundation chairman Josh Guler.
In the end, two winners agreed to split the grand prize of $2000. Local farmers Kenny Reis and Roger Langley each received $1000 after an intense few rounds of eliminations. The crowd’s fevered roars of, “No deal, no deal!” echoed through the halls, but the two men nodded, smiled, and shook hands to end the game.
The event netted $3750, which will be matched dollar for dollar by the North Dakota Foundation. “The enthusiastic support the community has shown for the Foundation is greatly appreciated and will help sustain the New Rockford community for generations to come,” says Guler.
The New Rockford Community Foundation is a permanent fund created in 2008 through individual and business donations, and grown through fundraisers and donations over the past five years. Each spring, the Foundation board gives away the interest generated by the fund to local groups and organizations. For the 2013 cycle, a total of approximately $2,200 is available for community projects. The Foundation will accept applications from April 1 to April 30 for this year’s grant funds.
