Women’s Auxiliary Cemetery Association Prepares for New Season
May 11, 2015 – As families start making plans to place flowers or memorials at their loved ones’ graves this Memorial Day, the Women’s Auxiliary Cemetery Association in New Rockford is doing their best to ensure the grounds will be green, manicured, tranquil, and ready for visitors.
The Women’s Auxiliary Cemetery Association is a non-profit, volunteer group that is responsible for the maintenance and groundskeeping of the Prairie Home and St. John’s Cemeteries one mile north of New Rockford. The Association was founded in 1954 for the collective perpetual care of both cemeteries. Their duties include hiring and paying a groundskeeper, and maintaining structures, equipment, grounds, roads, and trees.
The organization operates entirely from memorials, donations, grant writing, and support from Prairie Home and St. John’s Cemetery Associations, but does not receive direct funding from the purchase of cemetery lots, taxes, city, county, state, or federal funds.
If you would like to make a contribution to the perpetual care of the New Rockford cemeteries, please contact the Association Treasurer, Patti Gehrtz, at (701) 947-2903 or send a check to Women's Auxiliary Cemetery Association, c/o Patti Gehrtz, 1687 65th Ave NE, New Rockford, ND 58356.
