Eddy County Museum Announces New Prairie Jubilee Event

New exhibit, still under development
New exhibit, still under development

July 24th, 2017 – The Eddy County Museum and Historical Society will host a new public event, the Prairie Jubilee, on Sunday, August 13, from 1-4 p.m. at the Museum. This community social and fundraiser will replace the two annual summer events the Museum has held in previous years, with new activities added for guests.

The Jubilee will be a family-friendly event, including activities geared towards all ages. Snacks and desserts will be available, as well as the Museum’s proprietary “Historically Great Coffee” organic coffee blends, for sample and for sale. Activities will include kite flying and sack races for children, historical speakers on a variety of topics, live music by area musicians, and horse and cart rides around town provided by Sherman Clydesdales.

Guided tours will be available, as well as a new exhibit displaying many of the historic items donated to the Museum over the past decade, some of which have never before been available to the public. A few items of note include legal case documents and other local papers donated by the Manly Family, hundreds of turn-of-the-century photos recently received from David Beck of Seattle, WA, and several unique items donated by J&J Striping of Carrington and the Emmanuel Lutheran Church of New Rockford.

Admission to the event is free will, with all proceeds going to the Museum’s roof repair fund. The Museum board is currently working to replace the Stavanger Church building roof by about 2020, followed by the Hulbert School building roof within the following few years.

Museum President Jessica Dillon says, “We hope that bringing some of these older-style experiences to the community will help kids and adults connect with our local history in a new way. It’s one thing to know our ancestors drove around New Rockford in a horse and cart; it’s another to ride in one yourself!”

The Eddy County Museum is located at 1115 1st Ave N in New Rockford, across from the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd. Regular hours are Sundays from 1-4 p.m. between Memorial Day and Labor Day, as well as by appointment. Please contact Jessica at 947-2205 with any questions, and find the Eddy County Museum on Facebook for photos and updates.
