7th Annual Firecracker 5k Introduces 10k, Bike Options
May 22, 2017 – Rockin’ Fitness will hold its annual Firecracker Run/Walk at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 1. The race will begin and end at the fitness center downtown, with check-in and registration starting at 7:00 a.m. inside the gym.
For the first time, both a 5k and 10k option will be available for those interested in extending their runs. Also new are the options to participate on a bicycle or rollerblades, though these entries are not eligible for timed prizes. The course will also be stroller-friendly. (Unfortunately, though often requested, pet dogs will still not be permitted to join their owners for the safety of participants and animals alike.)
Pre-registration is open now through June 15. Early entry for adult participants is $25, or $35 from June 16 until race day. Pre-registered participants are guaranteed a free race t-shirt.
Youth runners 12 and under may register for $15 at any time, but will only be guaranteed a t-shirt if pre-registered. Children age five and under may participate for free, but will not receive a shirt unless they pre-register and pay an entry fee as youth runners.
Prizes will be awarded in a variety of categories, including men’s, women’s, youth, senior (55+), and 10k finishers, as well as several surprise awards. The Firecracker 5k/10k is sponsored in part by Peak Performance Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine, PLLC in New Rockford. All proceeds from this year’s race will be used to help Rockin’ Fitness purchase a leg press machine for the gym.
Anyone interested in volunteering to help the morning of the event would be most welcome, please contact the gym for details. Registration forms are available online now at www.cityofnewrockford.com/fitness or at Rockin’ Fitness. Pre-registration rates are valid only through June 15.
