Dakota Spark Program Offering Youth Creative Arts Classes

June 16th, 2014
Dakota Prairie Regional Center for the Arts in New Rockford is continuing its new creative arts enrichment program, Dakota Spark, open now for registration for 2014 summer classes. Three different class series will be offered this summer, for students grades K through 9. Registration forms for all classes are available at Latte Lobby.

The Photography class series will be instructed by local professional photographer Sarah Smith Warren. This class will give students the basics of photography techniques and will include outdoor photo shoots, portraiture, landscapes, and collages. Students may bring their own digital camera, or one will be provided for their use. This class is July 7 and 8 from 1-4 p.m. both days, and is open to students in grades 3-9. Registration for Photography is due by June 30.

The Drum Set Basics class series will be instructed by professional stage and gig percussionist Jared Kolles. This class will give students a foundation in percussion techniques, focusing on the use of the trap set. This class is July 28 and 29 from 1-4 p.m. both days, and is open to students in grades 3-9. Registration for Drum Set Basics is due by July 21.

The Opera House Youth Actors class series, a musical theatre and stage production camp, will be instructed by music teacher and stage performer Annette Hovey. Students experience stagecraft, costuming, rehearsal and production first-hand, working just like professional actors to put on a play for a real live audience. The first session for students in grades K-2 runs July 21-25 from 1-4 p.m., with a performance on July 25. The second session for students in grades 3-9 runs weekdays from July 31-August 14 from 1-4 p.m., with performances on August 15, 16, and 17. Registration for Opera House Youth Actors is due by July 14.

Class size for each session is limited, so registration is first-come first-serve. Registration forms were sent home through the school in May, and will also be available at the Latté Lobby coffee shop. Students living outside of New Rockford and Sheyenne are also welcome to register and attend classes. Contact DPRCA with any questions at (701) 947-2174.
