May 25, 2016 – The new ADA-Accessible Community Swimming Pool in New Rockford celebrated its grand opening Wednesday, May 25, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house. The pouring rain and thunder did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of the more than 100 students and community members who attended the event.

The opening of the new pool over Memorial Day weekend is the culmination of three and a half years of research, fundraising, demolition and construction. Sustained efforts by the New Rockford Area Betterment Corporation, New Rockford Park District, pool committee and city officials, the generosity of approximately 400 donors and grantmaking organizations, and the support of the residents of New Rockford brought the over $1.8 million project to its long-awaited completion.

Important features of the brand new facility include a waterslide and diving board, kiddie splash area, ADA-accessible restroom and shower facilities, and a zero-entry pool access area, where the water gradually deepens towards the larger pool area for easy entry.

The pool will be open seven days a week in the summer for open swimming, as well as offering swimming lessons and water aerobics. Family and individual season passes are available now at the pool and at City Hall, and day passes can be purchased at the pool.
