Special Election Set for Swimming Pool Funding on Dec. 11
October 28th, 2013 – A special election has been set for December 11, 2013, for New Rockford city residents to vote on the proposed funding package for the new swimming pool and bathhouse project. Voting will take place at the Brown Memorial Auditorium, 3 7th St S in New Rockford. Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Absentee ballot applications are available HERE, at City Hall, or from the Secretary of State website from November 1 until December 10 and must be turned in to City Hall by December 10.
The only item on the ballot will be the funding proposal, which permits the City of New Rockford to bond up to $900,000. A “Yes” vote is in support of the funding for a new pool and a “No” vote is against funding for a new pool.
The bonds comprise 60% of the proposed funding plan, with the remaining $600,000 to be generated from extensive grant writing, community fundraising and the city’s general budget fund.
The proposed bonds will be payable over 20 years through the collection of property taxes. Projected tax increase breakdowns for residential and commercial property owners are available here.
For the ballot measure to pass, 60% of voters casting ballots in this election must vote to approve the funding proposal.
Information on the project is available at City Hall or online here. Questions about the project, ballot measure, or funding proposal may also be directed to Pool Committee Co-Chair Sarah Smith Warren at 947-2205, Park Board President Judy Allmaras at 302-0034 or Mayor of New Rockford Jim Belquist at 302-0524.
