4-H Day Camps Coming to New Rockford
Eddy County 4-H has something new and exciting to offer youth this summer, two fun-filled day camps! Both of these camps will begin at 10:30am and end at 3:30pm and cost $8 to attend. Sack lunches are required. You do not have to be a 4-H member to attend these camps. We hope to meet some new faces! The first of these day camps is about the ‘Great Outdoors’ to be held on Thursday, August 4th at the New Rockford Conservation Park. The park is located on the west side of town near the reservoir. Children will be enjoying the great outdoors while learning about Dutch oven cooking, identifying animal tracks, making jigs and pop can fishing rods, and much more. There will even be a guest speaker. This camp is open to children ages 6 through 9. The deadline to sign-up for this camp is Thursday, July 28th. There is only room for 12 participants, so register today!
The second camp is all about the wonders of technology. ‘Tech Kids Camp’ is for 10 to 12 year olds and will be learning about computers, Lego robots, and geocaching. This camp will be hosted by the Eddy County Extension Office, located at 205 3rd St SE in New Rockford. Preregistration is required for this event and registrations must be turned in by Tuesday, August 2nd. There is room for only 12 participants, so register your child as soon as possible!
Not sure what 4-H is? 4-H is a youth development program of the North Dakota State University. Available for youth ages 5 to 18, 4-H’ers participate in hands-on learning experiences in STEM, citizenship & leadership, animal science, creative arts and much more. Through this unique learn-by-doing process, youth obtain essential life skills such as problem solving, decision making, coping and communicating that help them succeed in their school, college, community and career. Research shows that youth who participate in 4-H have better grades and are more emotionally engaged with school, are more than twice as likely to be civically active and contribute to their communities, and are 47% less likely to have risky or problem behaviors.
