Kindred Wins State Babe Ruth Baseball Championship in New Rockford
August 5, 2014 - The 2014 State Class B Babe Ruth Baseball Tournament in New Rockford concluded Tuesday with the Kindred Vikings emerging as State Champion, defeating the Thompson Tommies 6 to 0.
Approximately 120 players participated in the five day-tournament, playing a total of 14 games. Hundreds of fans from around the state and beyond came through the gate, and more than eighty community members volunteered to staff the event and to host players in their homes. Some perks players enjoyed were sponsored meals, free movies at the Rockford Theatre, a pool party and DJ, free swimming, and messages from professional baseball player Travis Hafner.
The tournament was organized and managed by the New Rockford Park District, New Rockford Area Betterment Corporation, SNR Baseball Boosters, and the Babe Ruth Tournament Committee. All proceeds from the tournament will be reinvested into youth baseball programs and ballpark improvements.
