Youth Taekwondo Classes Coming to New Rockford
January 21, 2014 - Starting on February 10 of this year, Great Plains Martial Arts will begin offering classes in both traditional and Olympic Taekwondo to students ages five and older at the Opera House Dance Studio in New Rockford.
Great Plains Martial Arts is owned and instructed by Miss Kim Jacobson, a certified 2nd degree black belt from the World Taekwondo Federation. She has been training in Taekwondo for over 15 years under the direction of 8th Degree Grand Master Ted Fitzsimmons. Jacobson currently lives in New Rockford with her fiancé, John, and works as a Design and Projects Coordinator at Dakota Growers Pasta Company in Carrington.
Classes will be held twice a week for ages 8+ and once a week for ages 5-7, with additional classes added as needed to focus on sparring, weapons, and tournament etiquette. Along with learning self-defense and developing physical fitness, students can expect to grow in confidence, focus, self-control and discipline.
Jacobson says, “I'm really excited to start a Taekwondo gym here. It's been a big part of my life and I've missed teaching it since I moved here. It's really fulfilling to watch the students grow in their abilities and to see the excitement they have when they break their first board.”
The classes will be launched with a martial arts demonstration by regional black belts, including board breaking, weapons, and more. The event is free and open to the public, and will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 1 at the New Rockford-Sheyenne School gymnasium. Information on classes and registration forms will be available at the demonstration, but the event is not required for students who wish to sign up for classes.
For additional information on class schedules, fees, equipment, and more, contact Miss Jacobson at (701) 471-2321, come to the demonstration on February 1, or drop in on the first class at 7:30 p.m. on February 10 at the Studio at 818 Central Ave, New Rockford.
