The Vine Intervention Wine Club to Host Holiday Tasting

December 10th, 2012 – The Vine Intervention Wine Club will host a special holiday wine tasting at the Opera House on Friday, December 28 at 7:30 pm. The event is open to the public, and will be themed on traditional holiday drinks made from red wine.

Instead of bringing in three different wines, as is typical at The Vine Intervention tastings, the selection will consist of three different traditional/specialty drinks, all made with a base of the same red wine - Peñascal Spanish Tempranillo.

The first selection is mulled wine: red wine mixed with a variety of spices, brought to a boil, and served warm. This is a traditional beverage for winter holidays in much of Europe (also known as Glögg or Gløgg, similar to Glühwein).

The second selection is sangria: a combination of red wine, citrus fruits soaked in brandy, sugar, and chopped fresh fruit, served chilled over ice. The club will be making their own sangria from scratch, following a traditional Spanish recipe.

The final tasting selection is kalimotxo: a favorite drink among Spanish and Basque youth, kalimotxo is made of equal parts red wine and Coca Cola or other cola. Even those who aren't usually fond of red wines may enjoy this fizzy drink.

Membership in The Vine Intervention is free and open to anyone of legal drinking age. Tastings are held once each month at the Opera House, and the $12 entry includes three specially-selected wine samples, one full glass of any wine, and light hors d’oeuvres. Attendees taste and learn about each wine, enjoy music and socializing, and gain experience with wines from around the world.

For updates and tasting announcements, email and ask to be added to the Vine Intervention mailing list, or “like” the group on Facebook for instant updates.

The Facebook event for the holiday tasting can be found here, and is open to anyone.
