Opera House Hosts 4th Annual Wine Tasting
Sept 16th, 2014 – About 150 guests attended the 4th Annual Tour of the World Wine Tasting at the Opera House in New Rockford, enjoying fine wines, dinner, and live entertainment in a tent under the stars, while raising money for the Dakota Prairie Regional Center for the Arts.
The signature event raised funds for the non-profit theatre and arts organization through ticket sales, silent and live auctions, donations, and sponsorships. Live musical entertainment was provided throughout the evening by Fargo-Moorhead musicians David Lee and Anthony Koop, with a special surprise performance by Toby “Beatbox” Mulvihill.
Volunteer wine servers poured samples of twelve different international wines, and tasters took around a passport which was stamped as they tried each one. The wines were specifically selected to represent their respective regions. The wines sampled came from around the world: California, Washington, Argentina, Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, Germany, Hungary, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. Bottles left over at the end of the evening were live auctioned.
The full dinner included a whole roast pig, bison and wild rice meatballs, pasta salad, and a corn-on-the-cob buffet. The bison, pasta, and corn were all locally-sourced, giving the meal a strong regional connection.
This year’s gala event was sponsored in part by the New Rockford Eagles Club, Warren Implement, Agri-Cover, North American Bison Co-op, Dakota Growers Pasta Company, and Cork & Barrel. Hundreds of staff and volunteer hours, generous donors, talented entertainers, and enthusiastic guests again made this year’s tasting a fantastic success.
