Dakota Spark Program Offering Youth Creative Arts Classes

April 23, 2013 – The Dakota Prairie Regional Center for the Arts in New Rockford is launching a brand new creative arts enrichment program, Dakota Spark, open now for registration for 2013 summer classes. Four different class series will be offered this summer, for students grades Pre-K through 12. Each of the classes is instructed by trained creative professionals, bringing with them years of experience in their fields.

The first class series to be offered will be Tour of Arts, a new multi-media visual arts series instructed by local artist Josh Williams. Students will be introduced to a wide range of visual arts mediums, including painting, drawing, sculpture, and more. Tour of Arts is open to students grades 3 to 12 and starts May 7.

The second class series to be offered will be the popular Opera House Youth Actors, a musical theatre camp and stage production instructed by Annette Hovey. Students experience stagecraft, costuming, rehearsal and production first-hand, working just like professional actors to put on a play for a real live audience. The first session for grades 3 to 9 starts May 29, and the second session for grades K to 2 starts July 10.

The third class series to be offered will be Dance Camp, an introduction to the world of dance by internationally-experienced dancer and dance instructor Ines Dunn. The series will give students a taste of a wide range of dance styles. Sessions will be available for all ages, from Pre-K to 12, starting June 17.

The final class series will be the Studio Arts Program, as offered last spring at the Dance Studio. The eight classes, each in a different subject, may be taken individually or as a whole series, and are available for students grades 1 to 8. This year’s subjects are Dance, Painting, Drawing (grades 1-3 only), Photography (grades 4-8 only), Creative Writing, Acting, World Percussion, Spanish, and Upcycling. The first class starts on July 29.

Students may register for as few or as many of the classes as they like, and registration for any class is due at least one week prior to the class start date. Class size is limited, so registration is first-come first-serve. Registration forms will be sent home through the school, and will also be available at the Latté Lobby coffee shop and online at www.dprca.com. Students living outside of New Rockford and Sheyenne are also welcome to register and attend classes. Contact DPRCA with any questions at (701) 947-2174.
