Eddy County Museum Seeking Hospital Stories and Photos
April 28th, 2014 – The Eddy County Museum and Historical Society is inviting the public to share their stories as they begin work on a new project – the City Hospital and Medical History Exhibit. This exhibit will include artifacts, photos, and information on the former New Rockford City Hospital, rural medical and dental practitioners, and advances in the field of medicine as they relate to Eddy County history.
Historical Society president Jessica Dillon says, “We are looking to expand this part of our permanent collection with more information and personal stories, so we are asking the community to share their memories with us. We are hoping to hear from former staff and patients from the City Hospital, perhaps descendants of rural doctors, and people with first-hand experience under the dentist’s drill in early Eddy County. We want this exhibit to feel personal and real for our visitors, and preserve the kind of stories people have always told over the dinner table.”
The Museum asks that anyone with a relevant story, newspaper clippings, or photos (please send copies if you wish to retain your original), submit them as soon as possible, as the exhibit is set to be revealed in July of this year. Information can be mailed to the Eddy County Museum, PO Box 135, New Rockford ND 58356, or emailed to dillon1348@gmail.com, including digital or scanned images, if applicable. The Museum is not currently seeking artifacts for the exhibit, but would consider especially relevant or interesting items.
Funding for the City Hospital and Medical History Exhibit has been provided in part by grants from the State Historical Society of North Dakota and the First Lutheran Foundation of New Rockford, a gift from the City of New Rockford, and volunteer labor by the Historical Society.
The Eddy County Museum, at 1115 1st Ave N in New Rockford, is open Sundays from 1-4 p.m. between Memorial Day and Labor Day, and for tours by appointment. Please contact Jessica at (701) 947-2205 with any questions, and find the Eddy County Museum on Facebook for photos and updates.
