City Men’s Basketball League Wraps Up Successful First Season
February 4th, 2013 – “We should get together and play basketball sometime” turned into something much larger than expected for some local men. The newly-formed City Basketball League, coordinated by Josh Guler and Tyler Cook, drew in 45 players willing to meet up and face off once a week this fall and winter.
Each player in the league paid a $30 entry fee to help cover the cost of referees and scorekeepers for the season. Bruce Hirchert served as head referee for the league. The teams played a ten week season, capped off by a three-day playoff tournament, which was sponsored by the Lions Club of New Rockford.
The New Rockford Eagles Club also provided a $100 bar tab first prize to the winning team. This year’s champions were the “Blue” team, made up of Reed Weisenburger, Jordon Meier, Dave Skogen, Levi Weber, Jake Langley, Eric Berge, Larry Danduran, and Kyle Wetzel.
Guler and Cook say they plan to run the league again next season, and any interested players should contact them in the fall to get on the roster.
