The Senior Citizens Center in New Rockford offers many opportunities to older members of the community and their families, for dining, socializing, transportation, and more. If you or a family member are 55+, please read on to see what programs are available to assist and enhance your way of life.

Dining
Hot meals are served every weekday except holidays, year-round, at the Center, a program offered through the Devils Lake Senior Center, which delivers the meals to New Rockford. Everyone is welcome to come and eat, at a rate of $7.50 for those under 60 and $4.00 for those 60 and older. Families are welcome to come and eat together - just call one day in advance to get on the list for the next day. To make the reservation, call Sylvia Kjos at 947-5378 with the number of people who will be dining. Dinner is served at about 11 a.m., and diners are asked to arrive a bit early.

The meals are also available for home delivery, for homebound residents. To arrange for delivery service, call the Devils Lake Senior Center at (701) 662-5061. The lunches currently average 20 people dining in and seven deliveries, and the Center is always seeking volunteers for kitchen help, serving, and home delivery.

Transportation
Eddy County Transit provides bus transportation for anyone, anywhere in town or out of town, including connections to Carrington, Devils Lake, and beyond. Rides to and from the Senior Center and home are just 50¢, and one way fare anywhere else in town is 75¢. The Transit bus is spacious and handicapped accessible. To arrange for pick-up or for more information, call Kenny Sharbono at (701) 302-0324.

Shopping
The Center’s ongoing rummage sale provides income to offset the cost of maintaining the Senior Center. The sale is open every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday except holidays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. inside the Center. The sale contains many different kinds of items, such as clothing, toys, dishes, décor items, jewelry, books, shoes, handbags, craft items and more.

The Center accepts and greatly appreciates donations for the rummage sale, anything except TVs or electronics. To bring in a donation call Lettie Annell at 947-5132 or stop in during regular rummage sale hours.

Socializing
The Senior Center is home to the Golden Age Club, a social organization for anyone age 55 or older. The Club meets the first Monday of every month at 1 pm at the Senior Center and hosts events such as Monday after-dinner bingo. Membership in the Golden Age Club is $5.00 per year. For more information, contact Club president Lillian Gedrose at 947-5829.
